Refocus

I started off 2015 setting goals for myself and planning the year ahead, like most people do. There were so many things I wanted to accomplish and I really wanted to take it seriously this year. I made time to think through these goals and how I was going to get there as you may have read in my post "Renewed." I decided to review these goals just to check on my progress 8 months into the year. As a way to remind myself of what I wanted to get done and to look back at what I've learned thus far.

The most important lesson I've learned is that things don't go exactly as we may have planned and to have faith in where you're being led. There are a couple goals I set for myself that I am right on track with . Then there are others that I crossed off my list and began focusing my time elsewhere.

Family has always been important to me, but I realized I needed to take more time for family. For the first time in 7 years I was single, and this new found "alone" time definitely made me appreciate my family so much more. I was reminded that the relationships that  I have with my family deserve constant and conscious work and this became a new goal of mine .

A friend of mine said something that really impacted me " if you have the opportunity to spend time with those you love, take advantage of it while you can." So making a trip out to Philippines & Hong Kong to visit family, gathering them together for a huge birthday celebration for my dad, taking my parents to Disneyland on a whim, bonding with my cousins and siblings through simple texts or long conversations were my ways of doing just that.

Within these 8 months I've realized that my family has become the main driving force keeping me focused on what's important while unknowingly helping me to work towards everything else I wanted to do this year. They have brought so much happiness to my life  and if spending more time with them is all that I accomplish this year , I'm happy with that.

How are you doing with the goals you set for your self this year? I'm curious to know if you've also shifted them a bit like I did.
